Denver in April is beautiful. Green begins to once again re-emerge, baseball begins, animals awaken and a certain bunny returns for a visit. Check out some of the April events headed our way, many of which celebrate the spring season!
What to Do in April in Denver
Rocky Mountain Train Show
April 1-2, National Western Complex
Showcasing more than 20 manufacturers, 50 vendors and 20 operating layouts, the annual Rocky Mountain Train Show has something for every train lover. Kids five and up can participate in the Junior Engineer program, teaching them about railroading using a find-and-learn format. Children will have the opportunity to operate trains, ask questions and earn a certificate of completion.
Carnival of the Animals with the Denver Zoo
April 2, 2:30 p.m., Boettcher Concert Hall
This performance introduces little ones to the joys of the orchestra by French Composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Each movement depicts a different animal as specific ones from the Denver Zoo join the musicians on stage. It is a fantastic family experience for all ages.
Colorado Rockies Season Home Opener
April 6, Coors Field
Watch the Colorado Rockies take to Coors Field once again on April 6th. For the first time in history, the Rockies will face all 29 Major League opponents in the 2023 season. McGregor Square will hold activities for the whole family, the Broncos quarterback will throw a ceremonial first pitch and a flyover will take place by the Air National Guard.
Disney on Ice 
April 6-9, Denver Coliseum
Grab your Mickey ears and head to the Denver Coliseum for a glimpse at Woody, Elsa, Timon and Pumbaa (among others) take to the ice! Disney lovers will revel in the magic of the show, the skilled skaters and the characters kids adore.
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at the Downtown Aquarium
April 8, 8:30 and 9:45 a.m., Downtown Aquarium
Families are invited to enjoy a breakfast buffet, have a picture snapped with the Easter bunny, participate in an egg hunt and enjoy the aquarium. Tickets are $21.99 for adults, $15.99 for kids ages 3-10. Children under 2 are free. Parking is included and attendees can receive 50% off exhibit entry. Reserve spots in advance to secure spot for a limited number of seats.
Easter brunch includes: breakfast items, waffles, pasta, carving station, fruit and cheese display, kids buffet and dessert table.
Unseen Oceans
Through April 9, Denver Museum of Nature and Science
Visitors will be submerged in the mysterious and spectacular aquatic exhibition, making spectators feel as if they are on another planet! Learn the ocean’s best-kept secrets and see amazing creatures through movies and exhibits. A special video game will make kids feel like ocean scientists as they explore the waters. Other interactive displays represent the many fish living in the ocean and the ways in which humans impact our waters.
Ballet MasterWorks
April 14-23, Armstrong Center for Dance, Colorado Ballet
To close the season, a grand finale is being held April 14-23, with live performances from the Colorado Orchestra during the ballet.
Anastasia, the Broadway Musical
April 14-16, Buell Theatre in Denver Performing Arts Complex
This dazzling adaptation of Ragtime, will depict a brave young woman of the 1920’s discovering the mystery of her past as she is pursued by a Soviet officer determined to silence her. She embarks on a grand adventure to find her way home.
Rodeo All-Star Weekend
April 15-16, National Western Complex
The stars of the rodeo return to Denver for the ultimate pro competition. Fans with a Friday night ticket will enjoy a country concert by Wade Bowen. Spectators will watch bronc riding, barrel racing, bull riding, mutton bustin’ and much more!
Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga
April 16, Arvada, CO
Enjoy the company of adorable baby goats during a 45 minute yoga lesson. For the last 15 minutes of the class, guests can pet, hold and spend time with the animals. Events take place often in different spots throughout Littleton and Arvada.
Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival
April 23, 1-5 p.m., Downtown Boulder
Drive your little fairies and elves to downtown Boulder for a parade and see the “waking up of the tulips.” This much beloved springtime tradition features live performances, special activities for children and more than 15,000 tulips that adorn the Pearl Street Mall. In case of inclement weather the festival will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 30.
